I swear that I'll start doing these movie by movie. This all at once thing is fucking ridiculous. No wonder I don't want to write this monstrosity. I can't seem to stop watching movies though. So I guess the show must go on.

As always, I celebrated Christmas by some rewatching of the classics. It's been quite a while since I watched these movies and I've seen them quite a few times, so these reviews may be rather lackluster (for example, I seem to be admitting love for each film), but I haven't written anything in forever and am starting to doubt the existence of this column. And I will not let this column not exist.

So I'm a huge deadline bandit again. Deadlines crashing into deadlines and I haven't even written down the names of the movies yet. Part of the problem with this list of movies is that everytime I looked at it, I swore that I had already reviewed them. Serious deja vu type shit, especially with 2012, a movie so thoroughly destructive that I wanted to review it right away and wanted to go on a disasterfest afterwards, but ended up just basking in the awe of the world having been destroyed before my very eyes. Maybe I had survivor's guilt. Maybe I just couldn't get my hands on the keyboard. Anyway, whatever it was, it's gone now, and now it's time for this show to go on. The cinematic spree starts now.

Deadline banditing again this month. I just can't seem to focus until everything is on the line and there's nothing left to do but review movies. An interesting collection this month, quite a few new movies and some solid classics to pack out the set. I'm way over deadline, don't have many books for tomorrow's book deadline, but I hope to read through a few today and get it done by the fifth and then get back on track and finish things when they're actually due. But until then... this is the cinematic spree.

Imagine

Deadline Bandit! Caught! Ashamed! Repentant!

So I'm a huge deadline bandit. I'm the one. You caught me. Got the place surrounded and the gig is up. First the litany of excuses. I had painful leg cramps. I went on vacation. I went out of town multiple consecutive weekends in a row depriving me of valuable reading time. I started watching Football on Sundays instead of movies. I wasn't motivated to read books or watch movies. The excuses now ended, let's talk turkey. What's the real situation here? Why have the people been denied their precious columns. Turns out I didn't read any books in August or September. That's not to say I read nothing, cause I read part of a Laurie King Sherlock Holmes with a female partner book, and I read a good deal of Arabian Nights, but I just didn't finish everything. Even the accursed, deceptively sized poetry books have bested me, as it's hard for me to stick with a poem when it goes on for page after page after page. As for the movies side of things, turned out I only watched eight movies, some of which were due to be reviewed on September 15th and some of which aren't even overdue yet, with their review date set far into the future at that way out distant date of October 15th. I can't even believe it's October. The weather is cooling off and pretty soon I can start wearing jackets and sweaters again. But now that I've admitted the truth, I feel it will be a lot easier to write about the current set of movies and do some serious book finishing to restore my book column to it's former glory. I've literally carried two armloads of books from my library to my desk and am now surrounded by the shame of books I was enjoying, but lie unfinished for whatever reason. Maybe there's just too many of them. But there's only room for one sheriff in town. That's why they'll have to meet their maker soon enough. But for now, they'll have to accept a belated edition of the cinematic spree, which starts now.

Really not that much to say. Way over deadline. Going back to my original format (at least for today) to save time. Was considering turning in half a spree, but managed to crank the rest of it out this morning. Going on vacation today. Delaying the book spree until the 15th, at least, because I haven't read any books and will be out of town. Also I'll do a small movie spree on the 15th as well. So that's all the administrative housekeeping we have for you today, and without further ado, the cinematic spree.
